I'm Not So Sure....

....that I like how this turned out. As you see above, I literally blocked (and tracked) my felted box. I wasn't using instructions so looking back I wonder if I should've done something at the four corners as I knit every row, so that they'd form a good 90 degree angle. I had to wrap that ribbon around the whole shmear to get it to stay.

Also, I didn't intend for it to be rectangular. It just made up its own mine on that score. And it has the hole where I drew the final stitches together. Maybe I should felt it again, but for now, here's the finished product. I thought it would be nice for holding little soaps or something in a bathroom.

Well - even though it might not have turned out as you expected it to, I adore this box nonetheless! Perhaps it's exactly the fact that it's not 100% perfect (but what *is* perfect anyway?) that makes me love it - it's unique and it's beautiful.. and it's your doing! I have yet to try my hands at felting, but I'm sure that my first try won't be half as good as your box is!

  2. Cute! I love it!

Also, if you want to make the corners more... corner-y (is that a word? You know what I mean.)
Try doing a single purl stitch ridge running up and down where you want each corner, it will make it want to fold in at the spot (just like a corner) and it should show through after the felting too.

    And I like the hole.

  4. Hi abigail, thanks for the advice. I did make a purl ridge at the base of the box for turning, and you're right - that would've given me better corners for sure. I have more of that yarn so maybe I'll give it another shot. Lydia

  5. it is cute you know! Maybe try felting it again. Maybe it wasn't enough, who knows. I could see it being used for lil soaps..maybe even lil candies. Either way, I'm sure someone will put it to good use. :)
